Signs That Help is Needed

There are often tell tale warning signs – some obvious, some not quite so – that could indicate an issue with an elderly loved one – and a potential problem for you!

Watch for these warning signs that indicate that you and an elderly loved one may need a Life Care Coach

When an aging parent:

  • Is having problems navigating stairs
  • Is withdrawing inwardly and avoiding socializing
  • Is confused about, or running out of, their medications
  • Is worrying you around their ability to safely live independently
  • Calls you several times a day going over the same issues
  • Mislays or forgets to pay bills i
  • Starts making donations to every charity – particularly as a result of telephone solicitations
  • Suddenly has “helpful people” and “new friends” entering their life that start gaining too much information about their finances
  • Has a medical crisis that threatens their independence e.g. a broken hip, a stroke.
  • Is not eating regularly or properly

  • Denial about a situation and its effects on the person:
  • Anger directed at an aging parent
  • Withdrawing socially, losing touch with friends and favourite activities
  • Anxiety about facing another day and what the future holds.
  • Depression, feeling sad and hopeless much of the time.
  • Exhaustion such that completing daily tasks seems barely possible.
  • Sleeplessness with middle-of-the night waking or stressful dreams.
  • Emotional reactions such as often being irritable, crying at minor upsets.
  • Lack of concentration and finding it difficult to complete complex tasks.
  • Health problems, including weight gain or loss, chronic headaches or backaches
