CAREGIVER BOOMERS OUTSOURCING CARE ROLE FOR AGING PARENTS

The Boomers. The first generation in history to hit their fifties wearing jeans. They feel like forty, are financially secure and are consumed with guilt about looking after their parents in their seventies and eighties.

Taking care of the needs of their aging parents is high on their “guilt list” but not high on their “to do list”. Boomers want to accept their responsibilities but are time impoverished and juggling their own careers and health issues. They simply want the whole situation to improve and go away.

Their answer? Do what they do at work; outsource the responsibility to someone else.

“We work together with families via tele-coaching to manage situations involving elderly loved ones,” says Mary Lou McCrodan, Canada’s Caregiver Coach and owner of The Life Care Coach. “I coach them on what to do and how to do it and, of course, to pay attention to their own well being”

“Before my Dad died 13 years ago I was his primary caregiver. And I was lost!

Where do I turn for help? Who provides what? What benefits and services are available? Today, my knowledge helps benefit families in similar situations.”

The Life Care Coach helps families throughout Canada and the U.S. who are having problems caregiving with elderly loved ones by providing a broad range of coaching solutions, resources and support..

Mary Lou has enjoyed a successful 25-year career in marketing and management In 2007 became a founding member of the Northumberland Elder Abuse Response Network and in 2006 became a member of the Halliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge Durham ACTT Community Advisory Committee and the Lakeshore Community Mental Health Services Program Advisory Committee at Northumberland Hills Hospital, Ontario.
